Observatory Hills Homeowners Association Meeting December 5 2007
In early 2008, the Town of Markham requested that York Region review the need for all 6-lane Transit Supportive Projects within the Town and evaluate alternative solutions in a broader context to manage congestion and accommodate planned growth. York Region is therefore currently undertaking additional work for all transit supportive projects (including 16th Avenue) in the Town of Markham, to better evaluate and resolve the Town’s request prior to finalizing Phase 3 (Design Alternatives) of the 16th Avenue Class EA. The Class EA project has therefore been on hold. Based on the findings however of the Needs and Justification analyses, improvements to 16th Avenue between Donald Cousens Parkway and York-Durham Line are required shortly. Based on these needs, and since the Transit Supportive Projects study will require several months to complete, and that this section of 16th Avenue is not part of the Transit Supportive Project (6-lanes are not recommended along this portion), the Region intends to move forward with this section of 16th Avenue as a separate Class EA from the 16th Avenue Class EA. A notice of Separation of Class Environmental Assessment will be published on November 27th and December 7th, 2008 in the Markham Economist and in the Richmond Hill Liberal. For a copy of the notice, please refer to the attachment.
